I'm always interested in the newest bird-related technology, so when I had an opportunity to test out the Birdfy Bamboo Wood Bird Feeder Camera*, I knew this would be a fun item to try out in my garden.
This is a large, solidly-built feeder, and it attracts a wide variety of birds. I love that it has two feeding chambers so you can offer different food within the feeder. (I've chosen to offer hull-less sunflower seeds and dried mealworms.) The locking lid on top is sturdy and keeps the seed dry. A nice bonus is the optional extended perch, which comfortably supports larger birds like mourning doves and Blue Jays.

The Birdfy app makes it easy to review videos of activity at the feeder (just be sure your app is fully updated for the best experience). Here are the main takeways on how the camera works:
- The videos record in 1080 pixel resolution in 20 second clips. (View examples shared on my Instagram account here: House Finches and Gray Catbird.)
- The one photo that accompanies each video clip is lower in resolution (640x360 at 72 resolution).
- One small downside: some of the video clips occasionally freeze or pause awkwardly, but I’m hoping this will be resolved with future app or firmware updates.

I've tried this feeder in two spots using the pole mounting hardware that is included with the product. (I stayed with the second location because the squirrel is unable to jump on to the feeder in this spot.) The camera remains charged thanks to the included solar panel. There has been some slight wear to the paint on the lid of the feeder, so it is worth noting that it may need a protective spray to protect the paint job in the future.
Overall, I’m really happy with this feeder. It’s well made, attracts a great variety of birds and gives me an easy and enjoyable way to keep track of who’s stopping by!
