2019 is the Year of the Snapdragon, and to show my appreciation for this easy-to-grow annual, I made a short video for the National Garden Bureau's #snapdragonlove contest!
The transcript to the video is below.
Snapdragons are easy to grow. In colder climates, you can start seeds as early as mid-February.
The seeds are very tiny, so you can just sow them on the surface.
I grow mine under grow lights, and I will thin the plants out so they don't get too crowded.
When they are between three and four inches tall, I pinch the tops to encourage more branching.
Even if you didn't start seeds early, lots of independent garden centers carry snapdragons as one of their first annuals that can be grown outside in early spring.
Snapdragons come in all different colors. The can be single or double-blossomed. But I like the traditional ones the best.
